Local Attractions

There are so many interesting places to visit in Ayrshire, all within an easy drive from Crofthead Farmhouse. You can play golf, enjoy the many water sports, delve into the local history, visit some spectacular castles or simply have a walk along one of the many scenic walking routes.

Here are some of our favourites:

Golf in Ayrshire

We are blessed with so many good golf courses in Ayrshire. Royal Troon, Trump Turnberry, Prestwick, Dundonald Links….the list goes on and on. You will find a full range of prices, from less than £20 per round to over £300! So choose the course that’s right for you. The 2017 Scottish Men’s and Ladies’ Opens are at Dundonald Links.

Dumfries House

Dumfries House is one of Britain’s most beautiful stately homes and best kept heritage secrets. Saved by the intervention of HRH the Prince of Wales in 2007, Dumfries House combines the architecture of Robert Adam with the furniture of Thomas Chippendale. Wonderful gardens.

Dick Institute

The Dick Institute features two Contemporary Art Galleries with a regularly changing programme of exhibitions, and upstairs there are large museum displays of Local and Industrial History, Fine Art and Natural Sciences. Featuring full disabled access, the Dick also houses a public library and reference library.

Culzean Castle

The magnificent Culzean Castle sits perched on the cliff edge, with panoramic views across to Arran. Not only can you have an interesting tour of the Castle, but there are many diverse walks through the estate including the walled garden, the swan pond and the beach walk.
